Chance to make a difference

Employers in the West Midlands are invited to attend a sector-specific focus group session and influence the region’s skills policy.
In September 2022, the Coventry & Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce and the Black Country Chambers of Commerce, secured the mandate to deliver the West Midlands Local Skills Improvement Plan (LSIP) commissioned by the DFE.
The initial plan, published in August 2023, established key priorities to enhance collaboration between employers and providers, ultimately shaping the region’s future skills provision.
As it enters Phase 2 of the LSIP, the Chambers and the Ladder Foundation are conducting an annual assessment of the skills needs within four focus sectors identified by the plan –ICT and Digital, Construction, Manufacturing (including Health Tech and Med Tech), and Logistics and Distribution.
The assessment will emphasise digital and green skills, evaluating the impact of the plan to date.
Feedback is essential for fostering a productive dialogue between local employers and stakeholders.
Topics discussed will include the challenges and opportunities associated with digitally upskilling employees in your sector and the current and future skills needs of businesses in your sector, particularly concerning low carbon, clean growth, and net zero initiatives.
Other topics include perceptions of the West Midlands and Warwickshire Local Skills Improvement Plan and its regional impact, if applicable.
An Engineering and Manufacturing event will be held on October 25 in Walsall. Visit eventbrite.co.uk/o/ladder-foundation-78204203053 for details.
